The Commonwealth of Australia, or Australia, is a nation in Oceania consisting of the Australian continent and various islands including Tasmania and half of New Guinea. Australia has an area of 8,154,864 km2 (3,148,611 sq mi) and is bordered from the east going counter clockwise by New Zealand, the French Republic (New Caledonia), the joint French and British New Hebrides Condominium, the United Kingdom (Solomon Islands), the Kingdom of the Netherlands (New Guinea), the Portuguese Republic (East Timor), and the Republic of Indonesia.
Australia is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy, its current Head of State being King George VI, their Governor-General being William McKell, and the Prime Minister being Roberty Menzies. Australia has a population of 8,421, 775 and its official currency is the Australian Pound.
Australia is a founding member of the United Nations (UN).
